Pineapple People | Fabricated Story
Using a prompt [Create something for a cult party using writing as your main device] I came up with the below idea as newspapers are the first thing I associate writing with. Working from here I knew I didn't want to do anything serious, in fact the sillier the better and this is where the following idea stepped in: I truly and wholeheartedly love pineapples, so I thought why not use this as my stepping stone for the newspaper article.
Below is the outcome of my writing session; to see process, inspiration and some development please scroll down :)
How did we get here? well I wanted to go for an aged early to mid 1960s design in line with some of the examples directly below. This was to be in line with the rise of cults in America, but with this one being a sillier interpretation.
I used the hands on the left as a light reference and drew out the desired shaped on the right. These were then scanned in with Adobe Scan so the individual elements of the composition wouldn't move about - with an added bonus being the auto vectorising Adobe Scan creates.
To give a suitable paper 'feel' I used some of my scanned texture collection and multiplied the layers in Photoshop. This was of course done post finishing the paper design in Illustrator (which was used over Indesign due to this being a one off page, and it's my personal preference when it comes to making logos etc that I knew would be needed in order to create the fake newspaper)
